Day 2 and 3 of the National Juvenile Indoor Championships took place in Athlone over the weekend with a large Large representation across a variety of events.
With medals at a premium, St Abban’s was hugely successful in claiming 2 medals on day 1 and a further two on Sunday.
There was one All-Ireland title too – and it went to Portlaoise AC’s Dan Downey.
Dan became U-15 800m champion in an impressive time of two minutes and four seconds.
To top it off he also came 3rd in the U-15 High Jump following an effort of 1m 66cm.
It really was splendid stuff again from Dan who continues to go from strength to strength in a sport that takes massive individual commitment and resilience.
For St Abban’s, John Delaney claimed silver in the U-17 400m and Archie McDonald brought home a silver medal in the U-15 Pole Vault.
Those were both achieved on Saturday while there was further success on Sunday.
St Abban’s Adam Kelly won bronze in the U-14 60m hurdles and Aoibhinn McDonald emulated her brother, claiming silver in the U-19 Pole Vault.
There were a number of other athletes who had fantastic performances but just missed out on medals. Ciara Milton ran a new PB in the Girls U-14 800m.
John Delaney finished off a busy weekend by breaking through the 2 minutes for 800m, however he had to settle for 5th in the U-17 event.
Adam Kelly was also just outside the medals in the Long Jump, finishing in 5th place.
