Students from Ballyadams National School were recently crowned winners of the Concern Primary Debating Championships in the Laois-Offaly-Tipperary region – and now go forward to compete at national level.
In what is a great experience for the students, they debated a number of motions including; “If we really care about climate change, we should all fly less”; “All Schools Should Be Gaeilscoileanna” and most recently “Sustainable Development Goals Are A Waste Of Time”.
In high quality debating contests, the Ballyadams students enjoyed very competitive clashes with Our Lady’s Meadow NS, Holy Family Senior School, Mayo NS and St Joseph’s NS.
And Ballyadams NS now take part in the National Knockout rounds of the Concern Primary Debating Championships on Tuesday this week.
The motion for this week’s Debate is “Protestors Should Give Up On Disruptive Action”.
Principal Rory Stapleton said: “Our entire school community are very proud of our wonderfully talented and skilled Debate Team who have completed a first in Ballyadams N.S history in recent weeks with their hard earned success.
“We all wish the children and their Coach Ms Holden every success next week when they take part in the national stage of the competition with only 15 other teams in the country”
It promises to be a very busy week in Ballyadams NS this week as they will be celebrating their own ‘Autism School Friendly Week’ with a range of events and activities to celebrate the journey of the school and their pupils in their class for children with Autism.
A whole school Colour Run takes place during the week which promises to be a highlight for all the school community.
