Ahead of the crucial NFL Division 4 game between Laois and Leitrim this Sunday in Carrick-on-Shannon, we chatted to Damien Butler, a coach with the St Mary’s team that won last year’s Leitrim senior championship and an authority on the game in the county.
We discussed Leitrim’s small population (less than 30,000 compared to Laois’s approximate 90,000) but how it’s a madly passionate GAA county.
He gave us the lowdown on Leitrim’s time under Andy Moran, the magic of Keith Beirne and the ultra competitive nature of the Leitrim club championship.
On top of that, he had plenty of advice for Laois supporters making their way to Carrick-on-Shannon – from parking to pints and mass to Sunday lunch options.
