Laois County Councillors have received advice about how to manage their personal security from Gardai.
Laois Offaly Garda Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Graham Kavanagh met with Councillors recently.
He gave them a presentation on the matter ahead of Monday’s meeting of the Joint Policing Committee.
Sergeant Kavanagh’s talk offered advice on how to deal with harassment and callers to homes.
It also centred on being ‘streetwise’ and how to identify signs of bad behaviour.
Members of the Dail received a similar talk recently and it is expected that all other Councils across the country will do likewise.
Speaking at the meeting on Monday, Sinn Fein Councillor Caroline Dwane Stanley thanked Sergeant for the advice.
She said: “He gave some practical and common sense advice for the elected members on personal security and I just want to thank him.
“I think it is only right and proper that we acknowledge the Gardai.”
