A new special education needs facility, consisting of three classrooms, has been approved for Mountrath Community School.
This involves the reconfiguration of six existing mainstream classrooms to facilitate this new Special Education Needs base in the school.
There will be a new extension of six new mainstream classrooms to replace the existing six mainstream classrooms that are being reconfigured for Special Education Needs.
The news was confirmed by Minister for State Sean Fleming who welcomed the announcement.
He said: “I am pleased that the Government has devolved the management of this project to the school.
“This will involve the school finalising the plans, obtaining planning permission and going to tender and for the contractors to carry out the work.
“Mountrath Community School facilitates a positive learning and teaching environment for all students and teachers alike.
“And this announcement is a very positive one for the school in providing new and much needed facilities for those students who will avail of these new facilities in this secondary school.
“Increasing spending on improving facilities for Special Education Needs is very important for this Government and is a top priority in the Education Capital Expenditure Programme.
“I believe no child should be left behind.
“I know the school will advance this project quickly so that this new Special Education Needs facility will be available as soon as possible in Mountrath Community School, which serves a wide catchment area.”
