Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan said: “Car dealerships play a crucial role in the transition to clean and efficient transport and these awards recognise their efforts in promoting and selling EVs to Irish consumers.
“The number of entries for these awards has increased 6% from the previous year, and it is good to see the high level of engagement and commitment from car dealerships in Ireland.
“EVs are, and will be, an important part of our transport mix as we move towards reducing our emissions, cleaning our air, and making our towns and cities better and safer places to live and move around.”
Declan Meally, Director of Business, Public Sector and Transport with SEAI commented: “We thank all the dealers who applied for the awards and heartily congratulate the regional winners on their success.
“We are continuously working with EV dealers to improve the journey for customers thinking about buying a new EV. It is exciting to see the growth in EV sales with 1 in 5 vehicles sold in Ireland in 2022 being electric.
“We are encouraged with the commitment of dealers to get motorists behind the wheel of clean energy EVs. And we are delighted to reward exemplary performance on the forecourts. It is amazing to see EV dealers embracing these awards in such large numbers.”
Brian Cooke, Director General of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) said: “The ZEVI EV Dealership of the Year regional awards are a very welcome addition to the annual SIMI Irish Motor Industry Awards.
“The ZEVI EV awards highlight the important contributions made by retailers from all over the country on the road to decarbonising transport and showcase their efforts in supporting customers on their journey towards electric.
“SIMI on behalf of our members look forward to working with ZEVI and SEAI on the EV project in the years ahead.”
The regional winners will be considered for the overall national award, to be announced at SEAI’s Energy Show in the RDS on March 30.
