There was success for Laois athletes both in Ireland and outside of the country across the weekend.
St Abban’s Ruby Millet achieved the European U-23 Long Jump standard and also set a new PB when competing at the IFAM Indoor Meet in Gent, Belgium.
Athletics Ireland have set the Long Jump A standard at 6.35m this year.
Ruby put together a very consistent serious of jumps including 6.44, 6.36, 6.34 and 6.20m which saw her finish in 2nd place overall in the competition.
The U-23 European Championships will take place in Espoo, Finland from July 13 to 16.
Elsewhere, Saragh Buggy travelled to Glasgow, to compete in the Scottish Senior Indoor Championships.
It was a worthwhile trip with the St Abban’s star claiming the victory with a best jump of 13.02m.
Saragh also posted a 12.83m jump, but it was her 13.02 that saw her take the victory ahead of the Scottish challengers.
In Ireland, John Territ and Dick Mullins were competing in the National Masters Indoor Championships held in Athlone.
John was 2nd in the Men’s M60 Shot Putt with a best throw of 10.52m and he repeated the silver medal in the Weight for Distance, throwing 6.80m.
In the Men’s M75 category, Dick Mullins claimed the victory in the 3k finishing in 14:20.
