As many people look towards getting fit and trying something new as January sets in, Portlaoise Badminton Club are encouraging people to give the sport a try.
The development committee in the club organised a 6 week beginners coaching course in September last year. Over twenty new players came along.
Recently, they also held beginners refresher coaching with Conor Deegan who recently attained his Badminton World Federation Level 1 coaching qualification.
Portlaoise Badminton Club currently has over 100 members and is ever growing. Training is held in Vicarstown Community Hall on Monday and Thursday evenings from 8pm for adults.
There are players of all skill levels from beginners to grade 2 and several teams within the club are competing in the South West Leinster Badminton Leagues.
The club also hosts juvenile training on Saturday afternoons from 2.30pm to 4pm for ages 6 to 17.
Club Chairman Roy Cobbe said: “We are delighted to see all our new members involved in the coaching sessions, progressing and learning new skills.
“Whether people wish to compete or just come along to training to get fit and have fun, our door is always open to new players, both juvenile and senior”.
