There was success for Laois athletes at the National Indoor Combined Events Championships at the weekend.
St Abban’s had four athletes competing in the competition which took place on Saturday and Sunday in the TUS arena Athlone.
There was great success on the day with Aoibhinn McDonald and Adam Kelly claiming National medals.
Aoibhin was victorious in the Junior Women’s Pentathlon while Adam took the silver medal in the Boys U-14.
Both athletes competed in 5 events across the day including 60m hurdles, Long Jump, Shot Putt, High Jump and finished off with the 800m.
Aoibhin won 3 of her 5 events, eventually finishing with a total of 2339. Adam meanwhile finished with a total of 1713 in what was a battle for the medals.
Portlaoise AC’s Dan Downey competed in the U-15 Boys Pentathlon and claimed gold after some stunning performances.
Meanwhile, St Abban’s Katie Baldwin finished in 8th place in the Youth Women’s and Matthew Rossiter was just outside the medals in 4th place in the Men’s Heptathlon.
