Revisit a stunning day for Laois as the ladies football team lifted the All Ireland Intermediate Championship back in August.
What a day that was!
From the moment many of the Laois players were applauded from their homes yesterday morning, to the team bus leaving Portlaoise, a thrilling match and celebrations in Croke Park and a welcome home back at the Killeshin Hotel, it really was a day of days.
Not since 2001 had the Laois ladies football team played in Croke Park and thousands of supporters duly made their way to Jones Road for the All Ireland intermediate final.
At half time, Laois looked in a great position, leading 1-9 to 0-3.
But Wexford came storming back and by the final whistle, Laois were hanging on to a 1-13 to 1-11 lead.
They made hard work of it in the end – but they did hold out.
And afterwards there were joyous scenes in Croke Park as Lovely Laois was played over the speaker system and captain Aimee Kelly accepted the trophy, the Mary Quinn Memorial Cup.
A lap of honour followed as the Laois players celebrated with supporters.
And when they got back to Portlaoise, there was a huge reception for the team at the Killeshin Hotel where there was celebration banquet planned for the team.
No doubt the celebrations went on into the early hours.
