There is shock and sadness in Portarlington following the news that a mother of three has passed away.
Denise Geoghegan passed away suddenly on Tuesday afternoon.
She leaves behind her husband Emmet and sons Curtis (22), Corey (17) and Caeden (9).
The community previously came together to support Denise back in 2020 when she found herself in bad health and ended up on the heart transplant list.
She remained in hospital for months before receiving a new heart in July of that year.
Portarlington came together to raise thousands of euro to help Denise with her recovery.
Denise’s passing, so close to Christmas, will come as a devastating blow to her family as her brother also died this year.
Mark Lyons passed away suddenly in March of this year – just nine months ago.
As well as her husband and three children, Denise is survived by parents Tommy and Concepta, brothers Stephen, Kenny and Evin, sister Carol.
Denise’s husband Emmet’s club, Bracknagh in Offaly, paid tribute to Denise.
They said: “Bracknagh GAA, on behalf of the committee and membership, extend our deepest condolences to Emmett Geoghegan on the sad and untimely passing of his wife Denise.
“Our thoughts are with Emmett, Curtis, Caedan and Corey and the Geoghegan ans Lyons families at this sad time.”
Funeral details for Denise will be released later. May she Rest in Peace.
