Portlaoise RFC have announced the appointment of Tyrone Elliott as the new coach of the Women’s Senior Team.
The club have struggled in the Leinster Women’s League this season and have turned to South-African-born, Elliott for solutions.
Coach Elliott joins Portlaoise RFC from Cistercian College Roscrea, where he spent five years as Assistant Backs Coach with the men’s senior team.
Elliott worked directly with the head coach, selecting the team, preparing for games, delivering training sessions, and helping to create personalised development programmes for individual players.
Prior to Roscrea, Elliott served as Munster Rugby’s Community Club Officer for the 2016-17 season.
During his tenure, he was responsible for delivering the Aldi Programme as well as coordinating blitz competitions to further the development of the Emerging Schools teams.
Coach Elliott prides himself on his player development skills, which he honed during his eight years coaching at St Anne’s Secondary School in Killaloe, County Clare.
His time in the position garnered a great deal of success, helping coach Killaloe U-18 girls to their first Munster Cup and Schools Cup victories.
As part of Rugby Academy Ireland, Coach Elliott has worked with numerous international coaches, while also completing the IRFU Level 1 Coaching Course. He is an IRFU Stage 4 Accredited Head Coach.
As a player, Elliott gained a wealth of knowledge as a semi-professional, learning his craft in Division 1 rugby in South Africa.
He played with SADF (South African Defence Force) and DHS Old Boys RFC, a bedrock of grassroots rugby union in South Africa.
Since moving to Ireland, Elliott has continued to play the sport he loves. He played in Division 3 of the Munster League with Scariff RFC in Clare, and spent two years with Limerick Leprechauns – a Barbarians-like outfit comprised of players from across North Munster, dedicated to raising money for charitable organisations in the area.
Tyrone Elliott is a fantastic appointment for Portlaoise RFC and will be a wonderful addition to the club.
His experience and passion for player development will be key to spearheading a renewed sense of hope and expectation around the Portlaoise Women’s team.
Portlaoise Women’s Seniors welcome Mullingar to Togher this afternoon in their last game of the calendar year.
Coach Elliott will then have five weeks over the Christmas period to prepare his side for the trip to Dublin on the 8th of January, where they will face Balbriggan.
