Duff’s DCU down Fitzpatrick’s University of Limerick in Ladies Division 1 College’s final

There was strong Laois interest as DCU and University of Limerick clashed in the Ladies Division 1 College’s League final last night.

The game was played in Laois for a start – with O’Dempsey’s GAA playing host to a fine game of football.

On the pitch, Park-Ratheniska and Laois Ladies star Erone Fitzpatrick is vice-captain of the UL team.

While Ballyfin native Stephen Duff is part of the DCU management set up.

Duff recently guided Portlaoise to Laois championship success and teamed up here with a member of his backroom team from that side.

Dubliner Peter Clarke, who has managed Dublin, Mayo and Monaghan to All-Ireland finals in the past, as well as Foxrock-Cabinteely in Dublin, was once again alongside Duff.

The sides met in the league final last year in Stradbally with DCU running out victors and they repeated the trick here.

Offaly’s Kate Kenny was immense as they ran out 0-14 to 1-9 winners.

UL led 1-5 to 0-6 at half time but DCU turned the screw in the second half and came back to win.

Last season, it was UL who had the last laugh as they claimed the O’Connor Cup – beating UCC in the final.

Erone Fittzapatrick will be hoping for a similar outcome this year while Stephen Duff will be wishing for the opposite.
