Hennessy Auctioneers recently completed the sale of three Laois farms by public auction.
The biggest sale was for a circa 60-acre residential farm in Granstown which sold for €1.43 million.
A 108-acre non-residential farm at Keelogue North, Camross, went for over €800,000 while a 41-acre holding, with a derelict house, at Clonkeen outside Portlaoise was sold in four lots ranging in €36,000 for a four-acre field to €380,000 for the 21 acres and residence.
Grantstown, Ballacolla
This circa 60-acre residential farm holding in one block at Grantstown in Ballacolla was offered for sale in two individual lots.
Lot 1 comprised the farmland and yard while Lot 2 was the bungalow on a circa one-acre site. with a farmyard in one block
There were eight registered bidders mainly from the locality but there was also considerable interest from Kilkenny and Tipperary.
After three rounds of bidding it was decided to put the entire on the market at €1.4m and it was successfully sold at €1.43m to two neighbouring dairy farmers who teamed up together to buy it.
Keelogue North, Camross
This circa 108-acre non-residential farm with a farmyard came in one block of land beside the Slieve Bloom mountains. It included approximately 10 acres of scrub land in need of reclamation and 10 acres of forestry.
It was offered for sale in there individual lots and the entire. There were six registered bidders all of whom mainly had an interest in the entire.
The farm was successfully sold as an entire lot at €810,000 to a dairy farmer from outside the area.
Clonkeen, Portlaoise
This was a 41-acre farm holding with a derelict residence just outside Portlaoise town on the Mountrath Road.
It sold in lots as follows:
- 21 acres with a derelict residence sold at €380,000
- 5.5 acre field sold @ €25,000
- 4 acre field Sold @ 36,000
- 10 acre field sold for an undisclosed amount prior to the auction
- All the successful buyers were local business people and farmers
