The Laois ladies football team that memorably claimed All Ireland honours in Croke Park this year are set to be honoured by Laois County Council.
Laois won the All Ireland intermediate ladies football final in thrilling circumstances last July and a civic reception is being held in the Laois County Council chambers in Portlaoise next Friday, November 25.
The event is hosted by Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council Cllr Thomasina Connell and local and national politicians will be in attendance to mark the occasion.
A civic reception is the highest honour a local council can bestow on a group and has been used for local teams in the past that achieve success on a national scale.
The event will be the start of a busy weekend of celebration for the Laois players and management.
They will be presented with their All Ireland medals at a function in the Midlands Park Hotel on the following evening, Saturday, November 26.
Seven of the players have already been honoured with All Star awards while Mo Nerney is set to be presented with the Laois ladies football player of the year at the Laois GAA awards this coming Friday.
Laois beat Wexford in Croke Park in what was the third season under Donie Brennan’s management and the Arles-Killeen man is set to continue for a fourth year in 2023 as Laois make the step up to senior level for the first time in six years.
