There was deep sadness in Mountrath over the weekend following the passing of a much loved teacher.
Ms Imelda Healy, who was originally from Ballyraggett in Kilkenny, passed away peacefully, in the loving care of Mary Brennan and the staff of St. Luke’s Hospital on Friday.
Ms Healy taught Geography, Business and Irish to thousands of students over her time as a teacher.
She originally worked in the old Patrician College in Ballyfin before moving to Mountrath Community School.
The school paid tribute to the late Ms Healy on their Facebook Page.
A spokesperson said: “This weekend our school community mourns the passing of our beloved teacher, colleague and friend Ms Imelda Healy RIP.
“We offer our sincerest and deepest condolences to Imelda’s family and friends.
“Imelda was a beautiful person inside and out. She taught Geography, Business and Irish to thousands of students in her time in Mountrath Community School and previously in Patrician College, Ballyfin.
“She will be so fondly remembered as a a sincere & caring teacher, a respectful & true friend and a lady who made the whole room smile with her wit & good nature.
“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h’anam.”
Imelda is pre-deceased by her parents John and Anna and sister-in-law Noreen (Hynes).
She is deeply regretted by her loving sister Angela (Healy-Ging, Connecticut U.S.A), brothers James, Liam, brother-in-law Maurice (Ging), sisters-in-law Mary (Bergin), Valerie (Haverty), aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Imelda was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery to Clontubrid Church on Sunday.
