It was a very memorable and exciting day for the new first years arriving for their first day in Mountrath Community School recently.
It was such a significant day for everyone as it is no longer mandatory to wear a face mask – students can now wear one if they choose to.
Mrs Kathryn O’Brien, principal, said that there was great energy around the school.
She said: “There was a real sense of looking forward to taking part in all the extracurricular events, sports and trips for the first time since the pandemic.
“It was also wonderful to see how happy and engaged all the first years were on their first day.”
The Meitheal group and some sixth year students were on hand to help the new arrivals settle into their new environment.
Principal O’Brien said: “The Meitheal leaders are always so good, like an older brother or sister – answering questions and showing the group around the school.
“We always receive very encouraging feedback on the incredible work of the Meitheal leaders from students, parents and teachers.
“It was a great new start to a new academic year for all.”
