Portlaoise Institute offers a diverse range of full-time courses with 17 courses available at Level 5 and Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications across the following departments; Beauty and Hairdressing, Business, Childcare, Design, Engineering, IT, Sports, Community & Healthcare.
Portlaoise Institute can cater for 350 full time learners with an additional intake of part time learners. An exciting new area that Portlaoise Institute is offering this year the new Business Sustainability course.
Deputy Principal Keith McClearn outlined “We aim to provide a high quality, comprehensive and inclusive Further Education service to our students and all our learners are encouraged to achieve their full potential. Our students often choose a one-year PLC course at Portlaoise Institute as a bridge between school and college, and a way of finding out more about a course or subject before committing to a four-year college degree.
A lot of very talented and capable people don’t want to spend three or four years in University. But they do want to develop their interests and skills, and to gain a qualification that leads to employment opportunities, or indeed to further studies. So a PLC course at Portlaoise Institute is ideal for them.
In addition, there’s solid evidence that students who spend a year on a PLC course are much more prepared when they go on to third-level, because they have developed research, presentation, writing and reference skills, and they often go on to do better than their peers in exams and assessments.
Our courses provide options for every type of learner – from school leavers to adults who may want to ‘upskill’, ‘reskill’, or change their career direction.
Our courses are extremely learner-centred where small class sizes and appropriate teaching benefits our students”.
Students can apply online at www.portlaoiseinstitute.ie, Interviews are currently ongoing with registration taking place on Thursday 1st and Friday 9th September with courses starting on Monday 12th September.
