It has been an incredible season for the Laois Ladies – and one of them has finished it with a fine personal accolade.
Mo Nerney has been confirmed as the highest scoring footballer in the country for the 2022 season.
Nerney’s tally of 5-31 (46 points) was good enough to hold off the challenge of Fermanagh sharpshooter Eimear Smyth, who finished with 5-27 (42 points).
While Laois won the All-Ireland three weeks ago, Nerney had to wait until last weekend for her title to be confirmed.
That is because the Junior final between Fermanagh and Antrim went to a replay.
Smyth started last Saturday’s TG4 All-Ireland Junior Final replay 11 points adrift of Nerney.
While she produced another outstanding individual display, registering five of her seven points from play, it wasn’t enough for Smyth to reel in Nerney.
Kerry’s Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh finished in third place and the as the Senior Championship’s leading scorer with a total of 4-24 (36 points).
Nerney was not the only Laois player to feature in the top ten – with Erone Fitzpatrick and Emma Lawlor also making the cut.
Fitzpatrick finished sixth with 4-17 while Lawlor was tenth with a tally of 3-15.
Mo will receive her award in the coming weeks, along with the winner of the ZuCar Golden Glove award for 2022.
