Laois man Billy O’Loughlin has stepped down as manager of the Longford senior football team after just one season in charge.
The Arles-Killeen club man said that due to work commitments in the USA, he’s “no longer in a position to give the role my undivided attention”.
Longford maintained their Division 3 status in 2022, with the final round league win over Laois relegating Laois and saving Longford.
“Retaining Division 3 status was our first main objective and with the introduction of so many new, young and talented players and wins over Westmeath and Laois along the way we managed to achieve this,” he said in a statement.
“I have every confidence that these young players will build on the great work that was done in 2022. I hope the progress we made can be added to by the new management and I wish them every success.
O’Loughlin went on to thank the Longford County Board who added in their own statement that O’Loughlin “brought a new level of professionalism” to the Longford set up.
O’Loughlin, who previously managed Laois to the 2019 Leinster U-20 final, has also managed Sarsfields at club level.
He’ll be in action himself this weekend as part of the Arles-Killeen team that takes on Portarlington on Saturday in the opening round of the senior championship.
