The primary school campus in Mountmellick was a hive of activity on Friday night as Scoil Padraig Naofa hosted a brilliant event to celebrate their involvement as part of the Creative Schools initiative.
Run by the Arts Council of Ireland, the SPN Food Feastival came at the end of their two-year cycle with this project.
Initially via zoom the boys met their Creative Associate Aideen McHugh where through a number of workshops the boys explored what creativity meant to them.
Last October the boys in the school voted to engage with food and cookery as the focus for creative schools and wished to hold a festival at the end of the year to showcase their creativity.
And the event on Friday night was a wonderful celebration of that as hundreds of parents, grand-parents and family members turned out.
The school yard was transformed into a market of sorts with a variety of food stalls and exhibitors as well as live music and games.
There was also a selection of food options with ice cream, crepe and coffee vans.
A key focus of the event was food demonstrations where student Finn O’Rourke was alongside Mary Harte from Kater4Kidz and Zion Onalimi was with his dad Michael from Flavour Safari.
The entire thing was an example of community co-operation with the Mountmellick Men’s Shed making all the garden games and performing on stage on the night also.
Principal John Murrell was on hand to oversee the event which had been Co-ordinated by teachers Grainne McEvoy and Caroline Greene.
