As we head into the bank holiday weekend with good weather forecast, things really appear to be on the up as SOLAS just keeps on getting better:
- The upgrade to the Farmers Market entrance has been completed
- We have a new high-profile chef joining our team next week
- SOLAS had a letter published the Irish Times extolling on how much the region and indeed SOLAS have to offer tourists see https://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/letters/2022/06/01/dingle-or-portarlington
- Plans are well advance for a major new Art piece which will be the largest ever outdoor mural in Ireland (more on this later)
Back to the small matter of a double market weekend with the SOLAS farmer’s market on Saturday and the monthly craft market on Sunday.
Weekly Farmers’ Market
This Saturday 10am-2pm will see the full range of bakery, fresh meat, fish and organic beef. As ever the focus of the market is on fresh, local and organic but with 2 standout stars
- First time exhibitor ‘Kali’s Kitchen’ will be out Farmer’s market hot food offering this weekend, with a wonderful range of ‘Falafel’ and other Syrian classics. Everyone here at SOLAS extends a warm welcome to Kali and his team
- Back again – “Sushi Mania” as Bas and his team with their hand rolled Irish Sushi, locally sourced produce in a range of flavours.
Monthly Craft Market
This Sunday 5th June from 11am-4pm will feature 25 Craft stalls including
- Louise and her range of healthy and healing Aloe Vera Products
- ‘Green-Wonders’ – Leah brings a range of herbal products to the market for the first time
- Jennifer Douglas and her selection of dried wreaths and fresh bouquets
- Upcycled Jewellery from ‘Noble-McG Creations’
- Christal Bakery will offer delicious cakes and treats
- A range of Woodwork, Perfumes, Pottery, Hats, Macrame, Knitwear and fashion
A treat for Hot Food Lovers
- The star Sunday attraction will be …. Back due to popular demand “The Republic of Grill” and their incredible range of Mexican Food

A simple, fresh and local choice this week is ‘A Scone with G’s jam and village dairy cream’ – supplied by 3 great local Food producers.
And the big news …. Our new chef Alan Hendry will be joining us next week the 8 June, so expect a fresh new menu with old favourites and exciting editions with lots of local produce – Can’t wait!

Our focus this week is very much on colour and event scent in a summer garden with 2 main areas:
- Range of hanging baskets and seasonal planters
- Fabulous selection of roses including a range of bee friendly roses all in flower now.
