Portlaoise Institute in partnership with Medicall Emergency Medical Training will be working together in the 2022-23 academic year to facilitate specialised bespoke Paramedic skills focused workshops to the students on the full-time Pre-Paramedic Skills course at Portlaoise Institute.
The four workshops spread over the academic year will focus on key domain areas used in the Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedics field.
Two workshops run in semester one will focus on Ambulance operations and Anatomy and Physiology with Patient assessment.
With the two workshops in semester two focusing on Airway management and Care for the cardiac patient and Medical and Trauma emergencies with emphasis on fracture management.
Students will also be offered a one day placement on a Medicall Ambulance throughout the academic year where they can gain first-hand experience in the role as well as gain valuable career advice from Medicall Staff.
After completing the Pre-Paramedic QQI LEVEL 5 course, students will gain a qualification in Health Service Skills.
Students can use this qualification to process into the field of emergency healthcare or gain employment in various healthcare positions.
In addition to the training provided by Medicall, Portlaoise Institute also provides training in Patient Manual Handling and Occupational First Aid to all its healthcare learners.
