Laois Student receives prestigious President’s Scholar Award from University of Limerick

A Laois student was among the recipients of a prestigious scholarship award at University of Limerick recently.

Emily Mulhall, from Ballinakill, received a President’s Access Scholar Award at a ceremony which took place at Plassey House, UL, recently.

The former Heywood Community School student’s award is aimed at widening access to university education.

Emily attended the ceremony with her mam Bridget, dad Stephen and aunt Margaret Moore.

Other winners were also in attendance alongside President Professor Kerstin Mey.

The President’s Access Scholars Award is a scholarship programme launched in the Academic Year 2011/12.

The programme is sponsored by the University, Business and Industry.

It focuses on academic achievement and seeks to encourage Access students to aim higher academically.

The awards are made to Access students in 2nd, 3rd and 4th year with the highest annual QCA for the previous Academic Year. To date, 52 scholarships have been awarded.
