The death has occurred of Liam Hanniffy, a highly-regarded doctor who worked in St Fintan’s Hospital for a long number of years.
A native of Galway and immensely proud of his home county, Dr Hanniffy passed away peacefully in his 93rd year.
He lived on the Stradbally Road and his family have been heavily involved in Portlaoise community life over the years.
Liam was originally from Creagh, Ballinasloe, and will return there for his funeral mass this Sunday, March 20, for 12noon mass. Burial will take place afterwards in Creagh Cemetery.
He will be reposing at the chapel at St Fintan’s Hospital, Stradbally Road, Portlaoise, from 4-6pm on Saturday, March 19.
Beloved husband of Ann, loving father of John, Ann and Dermot, father-in-law of Sandra and Emily and adoring grandfather of John Óg, Aoife, Elizabeth and Amelia.
Dearest brother of Ollie and the late Amelia (Faulkner), Dr. Ignatius (Iggy), Lily (Dillon), Seán, Maureen (Sr Kieran), Fr Mannix SDB, Fr Brendan SMA, Nancy (Copinger) and Dr. Patricia (Patty).
He will be sadly missed by his loving family, nieces, nephews, relatives, former colleagues at St.Fintan’s Hospital, the Midland Health Board and HSE as well as a wide circle of friends.
