Very few have benefitted more from the lifting and easing of Covid-19 restrictions than children with additional needs.
This was shown so clearly last week within the ASD Early Intervention facility of Naiscoil Kantara at Timahoe NS.
This state-of-the-art facility incorporates a sensory room, para-educational room, two classrooms and an outside play area with modern equipment all fund-raised for or donated to the facility as a result of the enormous efforts of parents past and present.
The pupil-teacher-ratio is one Primary School Teacher for each class of 6 children who have a diagnosis of Autism and who are also supported by two experienced Special Needs Assistants.
Staff frequently attend NCSE courses and this upskilling underpins all remarkable progress that children make in the setting.
Each child attending has the added advantage of door-to-door transport with experienced bus escorts to accompany them along the much-enjoyed journey to and from school each day.
‘Reverse integration’ is a fantastic initiative adopted in Naíscoil Kantara whereby pupils from the mainstream school go into the Naíscoil to connect with the children there and engage in activities including art, constructional play, music, yoga and shared reading.
The smiles on the faces of the all in the photographs below is clear to be seen as ‘Reverse integration’ could recommence last week.
When restrictions were finally lifted for primary schools, Ms Moore’s 6th class linked in with Ms O’Connell’s and Mrs Moore’s Naíscoil classes.
