The Laois U-20 hurlers will be hoping to scale some heights on the field this year – and they have already conquered a big one away from the playing field.
Ollie Hally’s side were away on a bonding weekend where they took on and reached the summit of Croagh Patrick.
The Mayo mountain is a serious test but the lads climbed it in aid of the charity Women’s Aid.
Manager Hally explained: “Women’s Aid is a leading national frontline organisation supporting women and children subjected to domestic violence including coercive control in Ireland.
“They run the 24hr National Freephone Helpline on 1800 341 900 and an Instant Message Support Service www.womensaid.ie.
“They also act for justice and social change by raising awareness, advocating for legal and systems change and by providing expert training to frontline organisations and employers on how to respond to anyone disclosing abuse.
“We are raising money in aid of Women’s Aid and every donation will help.
“Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us.”
On the field, the U-20s began competitive action the league with a big win away to Carlow last week.
They will face Kildare at home this Wednesday evening in the final group game.
