Gardai in Laois have arrested and charged a man in his 50s following a case of ‘distraction theft’.
The incident occurred in Portarlington recently and Gardai subsequently arrested a man in his 50s.
The victim was robbed after his attention was deliberately distracted in the planned theft.
Distraction thefts are typically carried out by two or more people.
They usually side-track whoever is in the home while another person enters and steals cash or valuable property.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed that the person they arrested is now before the courts.
They said: “Portarlington Gardai have been recently investigating an incident where an male was the victim of a distraction theft in the Portarlington area.
“A male in his 50s was subsequently arrested over the past few days and has now been charged with the matter and brought before the Courts.”
