A Daft.ie report this week showed that the average rent in Laois in the final quarter of 2021 was €1,146, up 11.3% on the same period the previous.
Some of the various reports that are published and issued with press releases can be taken with a grain of salt.
But the Daft reports can often hit the nail on the head too. And as the housing crisis continues, news that the average rent has increased again will come to no surprise to anyone seeking a property.
A quick glance on the Daft website underlines the point.
On Wednesday when the report was issued there were only six residential properties in Laois available to rent. One of them was the former East End Hotel in Portarlington. None of them were in Portlaoise.
By Saturday there were only four houses plus the East End, which is available for €750 a month.
So what can you get?
While earlier in the week there was some bit of variety – in Clonaslee, Mountmellick, Portarlington and Ballyroan – by the weekend, three of the properties listed on Daft were in Mountmellick and the other was in Portlaoise.
They range in price from €800 per month for a one-bed apartment in Portlaoise to €1,500 per month for a four-bed semi-detached house in Mountmellick.

Close to the Linear Park and Dunnes Stores on the Mountmellick Road. Gated entrance. Bins provided. No photo of the property is included on the Daft profile.
