Three Laois organisations have benefited financially after €6,650 was raised following a successful Christmas live animal crib.

The money raised has been equally divided between Down Syndrome Centre Midlands, Kolbe Special School and Laois Hospice.

For the second year, a live animal charity crib opened in Portlaoise at the end of November in Kelly’s farm at Bloomfield Cross.

A host of animals were present such as llamas, alpacas, chickens, sheep and donkeys.

The idea for the live crib came to Helen Kelly back in 2019. She purchased two Alpacas and after a couple of weeks they began to draw attention and families started to stop outside to view them.

From there, it spawned into a successful fundraiser that proved a big hit once again.

A spokesperson said: “A sincere thanks to all who visited and supported the crib again this year.

“To the sponsors – Bluesky Financial Services, Brackens Gala, Quinn’s Animal Feeds, Mochua Print & Design and Laois Garden World.

“We would also like to give a special mention to the Barbacks and Martin Kelly Electrical who constructed the crib.”
