The Health and Safety Authority has been notified following a tragic farm accident in Laois yesterday.
The woman, aged in her 60s, was killed following an incident in Clonenagh – an area between Portlaoise and Mountrath.
It is believed that she was struck by a vehicle and suffered serious injuries.
Emergency services rushed to the farm. However the woman died of her injuries at the scene.
Her remains were removed to the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise and a post mortem is due to take place.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed that they attended the scene last night.
They said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal workplace accident that occurred at a farm in the Portlaoise area of Co Laois on the evening of Monday, January 31.
“A woman in her 60s was fatally injured during this incident and pronounced dead at the scene.
“The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) have been notified.”
