Welcome to our school
St. Joseph’s NS is a co-educational, Catholic primary school which strives to provide a caring, happy and secure atmosphere where the intellectual, spiritual, physical, moral and cultural needs of our pupils are identified and supported.
While ours is a school with a Catholic ethos, it also has due recognition for all other religions.
Our school has 4 mainstream classes and 2 ASD classes. Our staff includes 9 teachers (4 mainstream, 2 ASD class and 3 SET), 5 SNAs, 1 secretary and 2 cleaners.
We strive to create an inclusive environment where all children feel valued and supported. We offer a wide range of academic activities and learning opportunities for children across all classes.
We use programmes such as Literacy Lift Off, Ready Set Go Maths, Stay Safe, Zones of Regulation and Friends for Life alongside the National Curriculum.
This year, we became part of The Lunch Bag family after securing a school meal’s grant. This allows every child to get 2 free snacks each day and has been a great hit so far.
We welcome new initiatives across our school. Already this year, we have participated in the new language sampler module, where children from 3rd to 6th class enjoyed weekly French lessons.
Currently, our infants to second class are participating in a 6-week block of dance lessons and our 3rd to 6th classes are enjoying the benefits of tag rugby coaching sessions.
We also hope to have our drama teacher back in the Summer term where children across the school will have up to 8 weekly drama lessons which will culminate in one of our fantastic whole school performances.
Other activities that we have provided for our children (pre-Covid) have included blocks of gymnastic, football and hurling/camogie coaching, swimming and music sessions. We hope to incorporate these once more over the coming year.
We have also offered lunch time and after school clubs such as cookery club, homework club, art club, football and basketball clubs.
These have proved to be very successful and we hope to reintroduce many of these in the coming months.
We enjoy participating in nationwide events such as Math’s Week, Science Week and World Book Day, Grandparent’s Day, Intercultural Day, and love to enter local competitions such as the Write a Book competition or local quizzes.
Yearly, we enjoy Sports Days, Book Fair Week and school tours. We also encourage our children to take part in charitable work and events and we continue to support Team Hope Shoe Box Appeals, dress up days for Temple Street Hospital and LOFFA as well as local community fundraisers.
We are a proud to be a Green School and have earned our 6 Green flags since 2004. The children have worked with teachers and SNAs, our Parent’s Association and the wider community to create a beautiful garden area in our school.
We invite speakers and experts to talk with our children about the importance of caring for our environment. This year our 5th and 6th class have had a session on bee keeping and our younger classes are due to have an expert in to talk about wildflower gardens and creating bug hotels.
Our outdoor facilities include a playground that has had a wonderful face lift this year with some amazing playground markings, all thanks to our fantastic Parent’s Association who play a very active role in our school. We also have a basketball court and field adjacent to the school where we can play sports.
Make sure to check out our wonderful school website for updated news and events and to get a greater insight into what each class gets up to each month.
