The All Ireland Inter Firms competition is one of the GAA competitions that flies under the radar somewhat but various Laois teams over the years have done well in it, least of all in 2012 when CJ Sheeran’s of Mountrath claimed glory.
Drawing on employees of the business at the time, they made it to the final, where they took on a selection of Teagasc employees from Cork.
And with a team packed with good local hurlers, mostly from Camross, Mountrath and Shanahoe, it was the Laois side that came out on top.
It was essentially a home club fixture for the bulk of the CJ Sheeran’s team – with the game played in Camross.
It had all the trappings of a big occasion with the Portlaoise Accordian Band on hand for the pre-match entertainment, parade and anthem.
