NPHET has recommended a wave of new Covid-19 measures be implemented from this coming Monday.
According to the Irish Independent, a letter with the new recommendations from Dr Tony Holohan to Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly was sent last night.
As the Omicron variant begins to take hold here, NPHET is recommending that all bars and restaurants are asked to close at 5pm.
They also advise that attendances at outdoor events and sporting events be capped at 50% or 5,000 people.
The public health team also that indoor theaters, cinemas, entertainment, cultural and sporting events should also be subject to a 5pm curfew.
A further recommendation gone out to government that all close contacts of a confirmed case, if they have not received a booster/3rd dose – should restrict their movements.
It is not believed that any additional restrictions have been advised in relation to household visits.
For Christmas, a person is currently advised to welcome visitors from just three other households into their home.
According to the Irish Independent, the recommendations have been met with ‘shock’ by government ministers.
Cabinet ministers will now meet to decide whether or not they will adopt the measures that have been advised by NPHET.
