The 6th year prefects of St Fergal’s College, Rathdowney, successfully orchestrated a lucrative school fundraiser recently.
On Thursday October 21, in a bid to raise much needed funds for Temple Street Hospital – and in a bid to raise the moral of the school – the whole community came together.
Under the guidance of year head Ms Kennedy, this all-day Halloween themed event was lead by Head Prefects Connor Fitzpatrick and Ella Hayes.
All the prefects worked tirelessly in their planning and preparation to devote the entire day to ensure that each class in the junior school were provided with the exclusive opportunity to participate in an array of fun and interactive events.
These ranged from a Fancy-Dress Contest to a Pumpkin Carving Competition, Special FX workshops, Table Quiz, a lively intricate Obstacle Course and even an undeniably entertaining Staff Spooky Stroll.
The rampant engagement of the entire school was phenomenal thanks to the extraordinary effort put in by both students and teachers alike as it generated an infectious vibrant buzz throughout the whole school.
Principal Mr Quinn gave his support and unwavering encouragement throughout the process as well as the entire St Fergal’s staff who gave their consistent support, participation and applaudable commitment to both their characters and costumes which allowed even the most reserved students to embrace and revel in the Halloween spirit.
Surprisingly, the Halloween festivities caused some of our more mature teachers to become briefly possessed by their student alter egos such as the new local celebrity Mary who may now be gone but will never be forgotten.
The incredible involvement of the whole school community is the key reason they were able to raise over €920 for Temple Street Children’s Hospital which has far exceeded their wildest expectations.
However, the tremendous success of the charity event could not have been achieved without the extraordinarily generous support from the local community.
A spokesperson said: “Helen Champion from Laois Sports Partnership who not only supplied the prefects with the necessary equipment for the obstacle course but actively participated in its early morning construction.
“St Brigid’s Camogie for the use an assortment of their equipment throughout the entire day.
“Mr Price for the donation of a copious amount of face paints which effectively inspired the event.
“FCD Accounting in Carlow for their generous denotation.
“Pat Delaney for providing a multitude of sliotars and a highly sought-after Laois jersey as prizes.
“McEvoys Restaurant Abbeyleix for the voucher and All4Fitness Gym for their kind donation.
“The Card Stand for the two vouchers for prizes and Fitz Hurls for providing a variety of sports socks for spot prizes.
“KLH Consultancy for kindly supplying us with two vouchers for Tayto Park and the generous financial donation.”
