The death has occurred of Portarlington doctor Oonagh McKeagney who was aged in her early 90s.
Mrs McKeagney, a native of Galway, and her husband Charles, who was also a doctor and originally from Tyrone, came to Portarlington in the early 1960s where they established a GP’s practice from their family home ‘Belmont’ on the town’s Main Street.
As well as the GP practice, they also had rural dispensaries in the likes of Emo and Ballybrittas.
Charles and Oonagh had seven children and their eldest son, Fergus, also became a GP and practises in the town.
Oonagh was predeceased by Charles, who passed away in the 1990s, and is survived by her loving family Fergus, Francis, Fiona, Niall, Eoin, Garrett and Morgan and their partners Liz, Roisin, Conor, Joyce, Deirdre, Helen and Anna and her adoring 28 grandchildren.
She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, while in the wonderful care of the staff of Oakdale Nursing Home, Portarlington.
Oonagh is reposing at Mahers Chapel of Rest, Portarlington on Thursday from 4.30pm with removal at 6.50pm arriving St Michael’s Church, Portarlington at 7.30pm.
Requiem Mass on Friday at 12 noon. Funeral afterwards to St Michael’s Cemetery, Portarlington.
People are asked to wear face masks and adhere to Social Distancing guidelines at all times.
