The National Ploughing Champions is taking place behind closed doors in Ratheniska this week – but there were some famous guests on site.
Four members of the popular Sky TV show A League of Their Own descended on Laois yesterday.
The comedy-sports show runs a spin off called ‘Road Trip’ and it is believed that the lads are currently filming that in Ireland.
Former Liverpool and England footballer Jamie Redknapp, French World Cup winner Patrice Evra, former England Cricket captain Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff and comedian Romesh Ranganathan were present.
They four had spent the previous day in Kerry where they attempted Road Bowling and had stayed in Adare Manor in Limerick.
The lads tried their hand at ploughing a field in Ratheniska and then took time to pose for pictures with many of the Laois people who were in attendance.
Jamie Redknapp is originally from Bournemouth which has some element of rural life as it is situated on the south coast.
He explained to Midlands 103 how he has great admiration for those who take part in the activity.
He said: “I absolutely loved this experience.
“I grew up in Bournemouth which is on the south coast of England so I have been lucky to live by the countryside for all of my life.
“This is a real skill and you have to have a tremendous amount of patience.”
