The death has occurred of Donnchadh Ó Riordáin, the former principal of Mountrath Vocational School.
Donnchadh passed away peacefully at home in Clonincurragh, Mountrath, on Friday in the loving care of his family.
Mr Ó Riordáin was a native of Dromahane near Mallow in Cork but worked in Laois for a long number of years where he was highly regarded in educational and political circles.
He was a fluent Irish teacher and very active in Fine Gael in Laois where he was heavily involved in various elections at local and national level.
Aged in his 80s, he is survived by his wife Mary, children Pádraig, Seosamh, Máire and Donnchadh, sisters Joan, Sisters Gabriel Joseph (Maura), grandchildren Caitríona, Cillian, Alec and Mia, daughters-in-law Teresa and Iris, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives and a large circle of friends.
Donnchadh is pre-deceased by his sister Sheila.
A private funeral mass will take place for family on Monday, August 23, at 12pm in St Edmund’s Church, Castletown, and will be live streamed on the St Edmund’s Church Castletown page.
Burial will be immediately afterwards in Aghaboe Cemetery.
