Gardai urge witnesses to come forward as investigation launched following assault in Laois town

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to an assault in a Laois town to come forward.

The incident occurred in Fr Breen Park in Abbeyleix on Sunday at around 2pm.

This is the sports area that is shared by Abbeyleix GAA, soccer and tennis clubs.

Gardai are urging anyone with information to come forward.

They say: “Gardaí are investigating an assault that took place in Father Breen Park at approximately 2pm on Sunday June 27.

“We are particularly interested in speaking to anyone that may have witnessed the incident.

“Anyone that may have information about the occurrence can contact Abbeyleix Garda Station at 0578730580.”

Meanwhile, on Friday night, Gardai arrested a suspected burglar after they went for fast food following allegedly committing the crime.

The incident happened in Portlaoise and Gardai there explained what happened.

They said: “Portlaoise Gardai investigating a burglary at a business premises caught up with the “burgerlar” when the suspect went for fast food afterwards.

“Overnight (Friday) a business premises in Portlaoise was broken into just after midnight, patrolling Gardaí identified and found their suspect subsequently.

“All property was recovered. A person was arrested and has now been charged with burglary, criminal damage and handling stolen property.”
