Portlaoise College held a unique Graduation for its Leaving Certificate class of 2021.
To start off, 1st Year students formed a guard of honour for the graduates. To comply with Covid restrictions the event was held outdoors with the schools courtyard transformed to a wonderful spectical.
Teachers, caretaking staff and TY students spend hours erecting the stage and decorating the area.
The event was lived streamed by 3rd Year student Ross Molloy for parents, friends and families. Even family members from America tuned in.
The annual 6th Year awards ceremony was staged in conjunction with the Graduation. Over 60 awards were distributed with excellence in academic, extra curricular and leadership recognised.
Thomas Maguire and Jade Brennan were awarded the 3rd level Bursary Awards.
These awards are sponsored by the Parents Council and Thomas and Jade will both receive €1,000 to assist with their 3rd Level education.
All the students received a personalised self portrait that the Art Department organised.
Principal Mr Daly commented “the school pulled out all the stops to give our LC class of 2021 the Graduation they truly deserved”.
