There has been one further Coronavirus-related deaths and 434 new cases, according to figures released by the health authorities today.
With just three new cases announced today, Laois now has a 14-day incidence rate of 114.5 – another drop and we remain at ninth highest in the country.
Of the cases notified today:
- 228 are men / 204 are women
- 74% are under 45 years of age
- The median age is 31 years old
- 217 in Dublin, 30 in Kildare, 30 in Cork, 27 in Limerick, 21 Donegal and the remaining 109 cases are spread across 20 other counties.
As of 8am today, 166 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of which 48 are in ICU. 17 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.
As of April 21st, 2021, 1,275,828 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Ireland:
- 904,774 people have received their first dose
- 371,054 people have received their second dose

Reopening plan due to be announced next week
The Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise has said the updated reopening plan to be announced by the Government next week will likely include the reinstatement of click and collect, non-essential retail, the rest of construction and personal services from May.
Robert Troy said the plan will also include a roadmap for the reopening of hotels and the hospitality sector from the end of May and beginning of June.
Speaking to a webinar organised by the Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association (ISME) for its members, he also confirmed that the Government plans to publish the National Economic Recovery Plan in the middle to end of May.
