Wouldn’t this just rot you.
Just weeks before they are due to welcome back juvenile members, a Portlaoise Athletics Club facility has been destroyed by vandals – who smashed windows and ransacked their club portacabins earlier this week.
Although nothing was taken, the back door of the portacabin was smashed in as well as eight big windows and four smaller ones broken.
The entire inside of the facility – which acts as changing rooms and a defacto clubhouse for the club – was also badly damaged and described as being “like Beirut” by club stalwart and current chairperson Ursula O’Malley.
“The damage to our cabins is so severe that to repair them is not feasible financially,” said Ursula.
The track which is close to Portlaoise College on the Mountrath Road, though accessed off Harpurs Lane is owned by Laois County Council but rented out by Portlaoise Athletic Club a couple of times a week.
The facility is just up the road from the old Centrepoint Shopping Centre which has also been the location of anti-social behaviour in recent weeks.
The track is also used by Ballyfin Athletic Club and Trilogy Triathlon Club though the portacabins are owned by Portlaoise.
“It’s devastating for this to happen and so disappointing,” added Ursula.
The incident has been reported to Gardai.
