The students and teachers of Coláiste Íosagáin in Portarlington came together to produce a very impressive video for International Women’s Day, piecing together poetry, speeches and famous words of wisdom.
Students Laura Slevin and Sophia Colman were the stars of the production with Laura reciting the Phenomenal Woman poem by Maya Angelou and Sophia narrating Malala Yousafzai’s World Assembly of Women’s Speech.
The famous speech from the Pakastani native Yousafzai reflected on her family’s decision to leave her home country to move to Japan and the importance of education to young women across the world.
“We must invest in girls today so woman can succeed in jobs tomorrow,” she said in a wide-ranging 2019 address that Sophia did a wonderful narration of.
“Failure is another stepping stone to greatness,” said one student quoting Oprah Winfrey
Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was also quoted: “If you want something said ask a man; if you want something done ask a woman.”

Well done to all concerned.
