Talking Sport Podcast: The ban, a new hurling chairman and Shanahoe ladies football feature

We’re back with the latest instalment of the LaoisToday Talking Sport Podcast.

Host Alan Hartnett is joined by Steven Miller where they look back at all the sports news from the last week.

The pair begin with Laois GAA’s decision to move their County Committee meetings ‘in camera’.

The decision ends a long-standing arrangement going back generations where the media were welcome to attend and report on what was discussed and the decisions made.

The full County Board meetings are attended by delegates from all the clubs in the county with the first meeting of 2021 set to take place virtually this evening.

The lads also discuss the appointment of Camross’ Mattie Collier as the new hurling board chairman.

He succeeds county board vice-chairman Tom Clear who has been in the role for the last few years.

While this week’s interview involves three stalwarts of Shanahoe Ladies.

Mikey Hyland, Mary Griffin (Kirwan) and Eimear Barry join us to discuss Mikey’s recent award.

For a lifetime of contributions, Mikey was awarded the Lulu Carroll award by the Ladies Football Association.

The trio chat about that, Mary recalls the 2001 All-Ireland win while Eimear discusses how she has come to the inter-county set up later in life.
