During this latest period of lockdown, the Portlaoise College community has embraced the online world by offering exercise classes for parents and staff in conjunction with Laois Physiotherapy.
Parents of first and second year students have been undertaking online Pilates classes every Tuesday morning.
Feedback from the participants has been extremely positive and it is hoped to offer this class to parents of other year groups in the near future.
Additionally, the teachers have been engaging in online circuit classes on Tuesday morning.
These classes have been led by John Sugrue, owner of Laois Physiotherapy Clinic.
John said: “We’re delighted to be able to provide the parents and staff of Portlaoise College with these online classes.
“Despite the fact that we are in lockdown, the online space provides us all with access to classes which can keep us active.
“We have seen a major increase in demand for online classes and we are thrilled to work with the Portlaoise College school community in this area.”
Principal Noel Daly said: “We need to do everything we can to support people working from home and that also includes our parents and teachers.
“We also wanted to create an opportunity to allow people to come together in a supportive but also helpful way.
“Therefore with this in mind we approached John Sugrue for his professionalism in this area and he was more than happy to help out.
“Hopefully this will lead to more opportunities to provide support in the fitness and wellbeing areas into the future.”
