37 Laois projects have benefitted from €58,298 in Community Enhancement Programme funding from 2020.
This funding will assist various tidy towns, parents associations, child care groups, youth and art centres, development associations, ICA, resource centres, parks, vintage clubs and sporting organisations.
Welcoming the news, Minister for State at the Department of Finance, Sean Fleming said that other groups should apply for similar funding in 2021 when the scheme reopens.
He said: “The work completed by community and voluntary groups each year is hugely important and can be seen in communities around the country..
“The projects listed show the value of work being completed.
“I would encourage groups to contact their Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) for information on the 2021 CEP when this is launched later this year.
“This is the final allocation in respect of these 37 projects for 2020.
“I look forward to further funding in 2021 for various community groups throughout the county.”
Fine Gael TD Charlie Flanagan also welcomed the news.
He said: “The Community Enhancement Programme is designed to support community groups, particularly in disadvantaged areas, through the provision of small capital grants.
“The Community Enhancement Programme was focused on meeting the challenges of the pandemic in 2020. For example it could be used for the development of COVID-19 compliant play areas for children.
“It was also designed to help with the purchase of COVID-19 related equipment to facilitate the reopening and upgrade of community premises, as well as the purchase of equipment to maintain community gardens and areas.
“It could also be used to purchase items like marquees, heaters, IT and other equipment to facilitate social distancing.
“Groups who wish to apply this year should contact their Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) for details when the 2021 CEP is launched later this year.”
