2020 Remembered: WATCH: Laois supermarket goes viral for in store St Patrick’s Day Parade

Back in March while the rest of us were in lockdown, this Laois supermarket went viral for celebrating St Patrick’s Day in the best way they could.

Fair play to them all.

For the first time since 2003, there are no St Patrick’s Day parades in the parish of Stradbally today.

Usually, the parish would have three parades. One in Vicarstown, one in Timahoe and one in Stradbally.

However, the Coronavirus outbreak has meant that all parades around the country have been cancelled.

Nevertheless, SuperValu in Stradbally has come to the rescue – with their own in store parade.

And it has proved a big hit – with thousands and views and more than three thousand shares since they posted it this morning.

Store manager Frank Phelan leads the way with Fiona Fenlon, Jamie Kelly and Enda Fitzpatrick all taking part.

They dress up in the green and march around the vegetable isle with some style.

They even have some bag pipes playing for good effect and they receive a great reaction from some shoppers.

They said: “Happy St Patrick’s Day from all the staff here in Supervalu in Stradbally.

“You can’t go to the parade? Sure we will bring the parade to you.

“This year St Patrick’s day is that bit different but we want to keep the tradition alive.

“With all the doom and gloom, here is something to give you a good laugh.”

Fair play lads!
