Rosenallis 2-20 Camross 3-9
Laois Shopping Centre SHC Round 2
Rosenallis have knocked Camross out of the Laois SHC following a stunning win in MW Hire O’Moore Park this afternoon.
Only promoted to senior last year, Rosenallis led this one from start to finish.
They opened up a nine point lead by the time of the first water break as their pace and movement caused Camross all sorts of problems all over the field.
Paddy Keating led the way in the scoring stakes and finished with 1-8 but they 10 different scorers in all, from all sectors of the field.
Rosenallis even had to do without manager Brian Troy, whose sister Rosaleen had passed away in Offaly.
But they dominated from the start with two early points from Keating and a sensational score from young Conor Cosgrove.
Further points followed from Cillian Callally, the very lively Brian Fitzpatrick and a free from Stephen Kelly. At the water break they led 0-9 to 0-0.
Camross got 1-2 in quick succession after the water break, the goal a somewhat fortunate effort from Mark Dowling.
But it was instantly cancelled out at the other end by Keating with a great finish. The excellent Ronan Murray and John Maher, playing as a free man in defence, pointed. At half time they led 1-13 to 1-3.
Rosenallis got the first three points of the second half from Murray and two Keating frees and though Joe Phelan got a second goal for Camross, John O’Loughlin found the net for Rosenallis just before the second break at which they led 2-18 to 2-6.
Camross got 1-3 in a row after the break, the goal from Mark Dowling, but Brian Fitzpatrick settled Rosenallis with a point and they had enough in reserve to hold on with a late free from goalkeeper Stephen Kelly the final act of the game.
The result knocks Camross out of the championship at the earliest stage in years while Rosenallis are in with a great chance of a making a semi-final.
