A significant fundraising initiative was launched in Timahoe last week as the Parents’ Association of Scoil Mhuire Fatima have set about raising €4,000 for the upgrading of the school WiFi system – with almost €2,800 raised to date.
The school recently acquired a new set of iPads which are a fantastic resource for the children and teachers.
This additional ‘traffic’ has placed added pressure on the current WiFi system and an upgrade is required to ensure reliable internet throughout the school and optimum use of the iPads.
It is hoped that this significant investment will support the school’s Digital Learning Plan going forward.
Principal Ann Bergin is delighted with the initiative shown by the Parents’ Association.
She said: “We are very lucky to have such an active and supportive Parents’ Association. Led by Chairperson, Chris Fraser, they have put in sterling work this year.
“Their first task was to help us with the significant workload involved in the return to school and they really put their shoulder to the wheel in that regard.
“Since then, they have procured a fabulous set of iPads for the school through the Laois County Council Community Enhancement Scheme and the teachers and children are very excited about this.
“Now they have set their sights on fundraising for a WiFi upgrade which will be the final piece of the puzzle.
“Fundraising has taken a hit all over the country due to the pandemic and the novel approach taken by the Parents’ Association this year shows the ingenuity of all involved.
“I want to take this opportunity to really express our gratitude to them.”
Normally the Parents’ Association run a major Christmas hamper draw but this was not possible due to the constraints of the pandemic.
Instead, they have set up a GoFundMe page and every €5 donated will lead to automatic entry into the Christmas draw which offers a chance to win one of three cash prizes or a voucher from our supporting local businesses.
The draw will be held via Facebook live on Thursday December 17 and the winners will be notified directly.
