Several members of the emergency services sprang into action yesterday to save an elderly man who got into difficulty while out walking.
The man, aged in his 80s, is believed to have collapsed while out walking in Monicknew Wood in the Slieve Bloom Mountains.
Gardai, fire services, civil defence and ambulance services were called on Saturday afternoon.
The South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association was also called in case the man needed to be airlifted to receive immediate medical treatment.
But thankfully, he responded well to those who treated him on the mountain and was able to, with assistance, make his way out of the forest.
Laois Gardai thanked all members of the emergency services for their swift action to help deal with the incident.
They said: “Our colleagues received a call to attend Monicknew Wood, Slieve Bloom Environmental Park today.
“A gentleman had got into difficulties when out walking with his family.
“Portlaoise Gardaí and Laois Roads Policing Unit went to the call. They assisted Laois County Fire & Rescue Service, Laois Civil-Defence and Paramedics.
“The gentleman made it back safely to his family.”
